For Once, Grow a Pair!

5) Election day is coming! By the time you read this, hopefully you have already registered to vote because registration in California has ended today (Monday, October 20).

What has been surprising in the last few weeks is how a few of my friends, especially those who are in Liwanag, have been rather liberal with their views. There are those who are hardcore Obama supporters (like myself). There are also those who have opposing opinions to propositions 4 and 8 when compared to what the Catholic Church has been suggesting. All I can say is this...

Is there ANYONE out there that still hold a conservative viewpoint these days? To make this point so lightly, I wish someone made a legitimate argument about something, especially against my and a few other people's viewpoints. It is very understandable that perhaps the moral right has lost this election this year regardless of who gets elected into office. Obama is obviously not for the right. McCain, while he claims to help those Christian conservatives in the US, is not necessarily a strong traditionalist. Also, these last eight years have shown that these conservative policies have failed. This is the era of lower public funding of abortions, the strong support of teaching creationism as supposed to evolution, and the abstinence-only sex ed class. However, these policies are failing the American people as well. Teenage pregnancies have increased in number in these last eight years which correlates to the failings of an abstinence only approach to sex. Creationism is chipping away at America's appreciation of scientific and mathematical achievements. Also, let's not forget the current financial crisis that we are experiencing right now.

However, someone needs to make the argument that the status quo is still the right thing for an American to live. Otherwise we go to the other extreme that I also do not agree with, ultra-liberalism. It's like the checks and balances concept. Arguments and differences exist to ensure that we stay in the middle, which is an area where most American's political ideologies lie. Otherwise, we will find ourselves in a country that's on a welfare socialist state that's too high on marijuana and does not appreciate the sacrifice and cost of the freedoms and liberties that makes the US great. Damn those God-less tax raisers!

All I am saying is never be afraid to disagree, even when the majority seems to be in opposition to you. It is something to appreciate about in terms of being an American. I and the few others were not afraid when the conservatives were in power. For the conservative or even the Republican, now is not the time to back off as the Democrats are near the point of controlling the federal government. Besides, if we are in power, it's because of the economy, NOT because of our values and principles.

4) On a lighter note on politics, I love parodies and satires. The Sarah Palin Rap on SNL was particularly good! If you haven't watched it, it's a link on my away message on AIM. Also, even though he's out of the White House in less than a 100 days, I love George W. Bush parodies! I think Will Ferrell makes the best impersonation of our president. Frank Caliendo as well is pretty good.

I consider these parodies and satires very creative. At the same time, I think these parodies really reflect the opinions of who wrote the piece in the first place. It's pretty obvious that SNL favors liberals. Even the actors in the show express their left-viewpoints.

However, I don't think the parodies are going to be as funny for the next four years, unless McCain wins and only Sarah Palin would be a good target. Otherwise no one is really a total buffoon nowadays.

3) There is a Sonic Burgers that opened in our town. Sonic's amazing! I love their slushes! Those commercials make so much sense now, but not really. Otherwise, it's just another fast-food joint.

Also, our family went to Taylor's Refresher at Napa. If this place sounds familiar, it was featured on the Food Network twice (once on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives [that dude's hair is definitely crazy!] and another time as a runner up for the best burger in the US). It's pretty good. It would taste even better if it wasn't so damn expensive! What can I say though, it's Napa. One thing that was interesting though is that the cups and plastic materials are made with plants and thus biodegradable. So, does this mean I can technically eat the cup?

2) I was watching CNN and they had a segment on these risky and reckless investments and how guys are more prone to making these risks. I guess there's a connection of having balls and having the balls to make these kinds of choices, even those that don't involve money. Pretty much the segment stated that the higher your testosterone levels, the more likely you are to make really risky choices. So if you are a guy and you play it safe, CNN just told you that you are a girl. Just saying.

Well, that's how life is really. The higher the risks, the greater the gains, but also the greater the falls. Playing it safe never really produce the greatest gain. In application, for those who are still single, this is a line that perhaps you and myself included need to follow. It's the recipe of being the greatest, but also a potential path of losing everything. However, all I can say is this. If you can't accept the risks in life...

You don't deserve to live at all.

1) I don't really have a number one to discuss. So all I will say is that based on a lot of people's away messages, it seems like it is midterms season.

God bless on your exams and papers...and also in your personal life.

Don't forget to vote! It's an important election.

That is all.
